Tesla Confirms Adaptation To Korea’s Nationwide Electric Vehicle Charging Network

news1

According to foreign media reports, Tesla has released a new CCS charging adapter that is compatible with its patented charging connector.

However, it is not yet known whether the product will be released into the North American market.

Tesla switched its mainstream charging standard to CCS after the launch of the Model 3 and Supercharger V3 in Europe.

Tesla has stopped rolling out the CCS adapter to Model S and Model X owners in order to encourage use of the continuously growing network of CCS charging stations.

The adapter, which enables CCS with Type 2 ports (European labeled charging connectors), will be available in select markets. However, Tesla has not yet launched a CCS adapter for its own proprietary charging connector, which is typically used in the North American market and some other markets.

This means that Tesla owners in North America cannot take advantage of third-party EV charging networks that use the CCS standard.

Now, Tesla says it will launch the new adapter within the first half of 2021, and at least Tesla owners in South Korea will be able to use it first.

Tesla owners in Korea are reportedly claiming that it received the following email: "Tesla Korea will officially release the CCS 1 charging adapter in the first half of 2021."

The release of the CCS 1 charging adapter will benefit the EV charging network spread across Korea, thereby enhancing the user experience.

Although the situation in North America is still unclear, Tesla confirmed for the first time that the company plans to produce a CCS adapter for its exclusive charging connector that will benefit Tesla owners in the US and Canada.
